Show up. Show up on time. Show up ready to learn, engage, and work! ~ courtesy of Prof. Lorie Loeb
Attend class with something to write with and to write on :)
Please refrain from using laptops during lectures (except for notetaking and in-class activities)
Put your creative side to work in and out of class.
No late assignment submissions.... PLAN accordingly!
When we have it set up, please use slack for all (almost all) communication/questions.
If the comment/question can benefit at least 1 other student, then use slack!
Use email for personal/private communication. Responses may be within 24 - 48 hours.
Contribute meaningfully and substantially to your course project.
Note that each student's final project grade will be commensurate to their contribution to the project. This final assessment and grade assignment will be determined by the instructor.
Ask questions if anything is unclear! All questions are welcome.
Should AI do your homework for you? NO!
If yes, submit with the name of the AI tool used and not your name (e.g. Assignment 1: ChatGPT)
When you use anything else (including AI tools) to support accomplishment of your assignments, you MUST include your references. Not including your references is plagiarism!
How? Write a short but very specific paragraph that describes where the reference contributed. E.g. Lines 5 – 100 on the code for implementing this user page was generated by ChatGPT.
Some assignments will explicitly state that you can and should use AI tools! Even for those, you are required to include your references :)
AI tools can be helpers, but AI tools are not the one earning a degree, it is YOU!
Don’t miss your opportunities to learn… even in the AI era.
We will use Slack for most communication. Slack is a great place to ask questions related to an assignment or a concept in the learning materials. If you have a question, there is a high chance that another student has the same question so please do not be shy about posting. Posting on slack guarantees a higher response time from the teaching team and allows others to benefit from the answer. Also, Slack is a great place to share useful resources for this course such as reading material or videos on various HCI topics. For personal questions, please use email instead.
